Florida State University Breaks Record for Research Funding

Breaking a record in research funding in the 2018 fiscal year, Florida State University has secured more than $226 million for research in a variety of areas, including climate change, nuclear science, cancer treatment, and deep space travel. The university has taken in $1 billion in funding in the past five years.
To boost funding, researchers focused their efforts on the National Institutes of Health, from which they received 73-percent more funds than in fiscal 2017. Another prominent source of funding was the National Science Foundation, which gave university researchers 201 awards.
The increase in funding reflects the trust that federal agencies place in Florida State’s top research programs. Researchers are leveraging these funds to study a variety of diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Zika, and cancer.
